Central Queensland University (CQU) is a prominent institution in Australia, known for its extensive regional presence and diverse course offerings and has been a customer of Locatrix since 2009.
Did you know it is the largest regional university in Australia with over 20 locations across the country including a campus in Jakarta?
A major contributor of research, CQU also provides many flexible study options and pathways to education including online and on-campus making it accessible to a diverse student body from over 85 countries.
Once a student of CQU herself, Dana O'Brien now works there as Safety and Wellbeing Manager in People and Culture Division managing a team of 6 people who oversee the safety processes across the 20 campuses.
With over 16,000 students studying on-campus, it is a critical role Dana’s team plays in making sure safety standards are kept to a high standard – and this is where Locatrix’s software profiles invaluable assistance.
Primarily used to manage for delivering online, site specific General / First Response, ECO, Contractors, Students, Practical Work Space Induction and compliance, PlanSafe helps the team keep building records and processes up to date and communicated to all occupants.
"Our team was familiar with PlanSafe, but it wasn’t until I took on the role of Safety and Wellbeing Manager that I fully recognised the ease of use and accuracy it provides. We consistently receive feedback from learners about how quickly and effortlessly they can complete their training. For my team, who oversees numerous campuses nationwide, the ability to easily update and communicate any building or emergency changes through the online training platform is invaluable."
Dana’s team have decided to take PlanSafe to the next level and train their staff on PlanStudio too.
“We usually identify building changes and send them to Locatrix for updating, which is turned around within 2 hours but It wasn’t until a demo of Locatrix’s drafting tool PlanStudio and the versatility it provides, that we made the decision to extend Locatrix’s services and have our team trained on PlanStudio too. This enablement will provide us the freedom to update any floor plan changes while performing on site audits which we do annually via the iAuditor. We have decided to add assets to the plan too. The responsibility of making sure so many buildings over 20 locations are always accurate is something we cannot risk, and with PlanStudio and PlanSafe, we are confident we won’t. Any change made in PlanStudio is immediately reflected in PlanSafe, therefore the most up to date and accurate building information is translated into the PlanSafe learning content, giving us full control in making sure nothing is left to chance and updates are immediate”.
Dana was pleased to hear that Locatrix’s ESP currently being piloted with Victoria Police, NSW Police and Queensland Police and Fire and Rescue.
“Having flagged sharing up to date and critical building information with emergency as a gap in our business continuity plans, it was a relief to learn that floor plans will be shared via the ESP so that First Responders will be able to access the building information required to make our buildings safer for students, visitors and faculty. This provides even more incentive to use PlanStudio on a regular basis, working with our projects team to make sure every renovation and building update is reflective of what will be seen in the data feed”.
CQU are a valued customer of Locatrix and value the feedback we receive from Dana and the team.
Kris Brown is the Executive Manager of ANZ Sales, helping manage best outcomes for QCU and the team over the term of their contract:
“It’s the highest compliment when a leading University such as CQU rate your online training as one they depend upon, especially with something as critical as workplace safety and emergency management. Recognising the extensive software development we have been able to implement, especially with PlanStudio and ESP, Dana and her team have taken our partnership to the next level, extending their trust to embrace PlanStudio. With CQU’s diligent data updates to their floor plans with PlanStudio Audits, the ESP will provide enriched data which can be highly dependable for First Responders to refer to in the case of an emergency”.
