New Telstra app gives a voice to Aussie Facebook pages

Australia’s largest mobile network operator, Telstra, has launched a new application which allows Facebook fans to express themselves with audio (rather than written) status updates and wall posts, via their mobile phone.

The new Telstra service, known as Blurtl™, lets users:

  • POST a 30 second audio status update to their Facebook page;
  • SHARE a 30 second audio post on up to five nominated friends walls;
  • PLAY their Blurtl™ message by clicking the audio file on Facebook.

Telstra Consumer Executive Director, Ms Rebekah O’Flaherty, said an increasing number of Australians were accessing social networking sites on their mobiles, with Facebook by far the most popular for Telstra 3G mobile customers.

“Whether recording your baby’s first words to share with all your Facebook friends, leaving a personalised, audio Happy Birthday wall post to your mate in London, or updating your status with a quirky voice message that you’re engaged, Blurtl™ is set to add an extra dose of personality to Aussie Facebook pages,” Ms O’Flaherty said.

Blurtl’s arrival coincides with the launch of Telstra’s new Pre-Paid Weekend+ offer, which includes free standard national SMS and calls to most Australian numbers- all weekend with a $50 recharge.

Ms O’Flaherty said: “Telstra is excited to be the first to offer this application to our customers and all Australians. As part of the Pre-Paid Weekend+ offer customers can Blurtl™ on Facebook all weekend for free when they recharge $50.”

Locatrix is providing the service for Telstra as a hosted solution, based on Chime and Locatrix/SNX. You can read the full Telstra press release here.
