Locatrix Announces the World's First Fully Integrated Presence, Proximity and Location Service

Australian innovation integrates presence, proximity, availability and location services into a single enterprise-ready platform; provides businesses with tools to location-enable corporate applications and enhance employee productivity.

Brisbane, Australia – Feb. 22, 2005 – Locatrix Communications has unveiled a beta version of client software that drives the world’s first integrated presence, proximity, and location service.  Locatrix ShareWhere™ clients run on personal computers running Microsoft Windows XP/2000, as well as a range of wireless platforms including devices from Nokia, Sony-Ericsson, Siemens, Motorola and Research in Motion. The Locatrix service lets business users unobtrusively share location, status and availability information with their colleagues, wherever and however they are connected via IP or cellular networks, and provides enhanced mobile productivity, security and customer responsiveness.

“The benefits to a mobile business are enormous”, says David Leggett, CEO of SDSI Pty Ltd and an early adopter of the Locatrix service.  “You can use Locatrix from a WAP-enabled phone to show when a colleague arrives at their office, or whether they are on another floor or campus location.  If that colleague is away from the office, you can view their approximate location and whether or not they are in a scheduled meeting. You can also determine who is closest to a particular customer location. Locatrix saves time and helps our employees to connect and collaborate more efficiently.”

The Locatrix service works by determining a user’s PC connection at their office LAN or a known WiFi hotspot, their proximity to a known location using Bluetooth or RFID discovery, and any mobile handset connected to a cellular network.  Locatrix ShareWhere™ software residing on the subscriber’s PC or mobile device integrates with the network and their corporate calendar and contact management systems, and the Locatrix application service platform transparently delivers the service over GSM, CDMA, W-CDMA and TCP/IP connections.  Locatrix provides a single view of the subscriber’s presence, availability and location via HTML, XML, WAP or software APIs, enabling business users and their corporate applications to have a real-time view of the location, status and availability of their mobile or office-bound colleagues.  A sophisticated user-based privacy framework ensures only approved parties may access a subscriber’s personal information.

“Locatrix is all about leveraging location and context,” according to Mark White, Founder and CEO of Locatrix Communications. “Having mobile personnel opens a dimension to business that is usually not exploited. By integrating real-time location, presence and availability information right across a business – in e-mail, CRM, and field service management applications – we enable employees to respond to customers faster, communicate more efficiently, and become more productive.”

The Locatrix service will be offered through wireless network operators, for whom Locatrix can create subscription revenues and generate wireless data traffic, as well as dramatically broaden the potential subscriber market for location-based services. The company is already running trials of the Locatrix service with a small number of wireless network operators and White hopes to add more over the coming months. “We have received interest from operators in Asia, India and the United States,” he says, “and by releasing this downloadable beta for Windows we aim to generate greater awareness among enterprises for the benefits of location-enabled productivity.”

The Locatrix ShareWhere™ for Windows beta client is now available for download from http://www.locatrix.com/.  Wireless network operators interested in a trial of the Locatrix platform can contact info at locatrix dot com.

Locatrix Communications has a simple mission: to ignite the wireless services marketplace by location-enabling enterprise and personal productivity applications, and creating location-based application services applicable to the broadest possible subscriber base. Our flagship product – Locatrix™ – is a wireless application services platform that determines the status and location of mobile devices and makes that information available to corporate productivity tools.   For more information on Locatrix Communications please visit us at http://www.locatrix.com.
