Announcing Locatrix/Finder – A New Benchmark for 2G and 3G Location Application Services

Innovative WAP application suite integrates location and presence; provides 2G and 3G mobile operators a clear path to convergence location services.

Brisbane, Australia – 22nd September 2005 – Locatrix Communications today heralded the arrival of the next generation of consumer wireless application services with the announcement of Locatrix/Finder, the first mobile “friend finder” application to be fully integrated with a multi-network subscriber presence service.

“Analysts regularly cite tremendous subscriber interest in using mobile handsets to locate and connect with their friends, family and colleagues”, said Mark White, Founder and CEO of Locatrix Communications. “Locatrix/Finder goes one step further by integrating presence and location information from any IP network within the cellular WAP service”.

Based on the Locatrix Applications Server, Locatrix/Finder provides mobile operators with the opportunity to cost-effectively launch consumer location services, while providing a clear path to advanced presence-based collaboration services.

Features of Locatrix/Finder include:

  • WAP 1.x, WAP2.0, SMS, cHTML, HTML and PC interfaces
  • Presence-ready framework, with prototype plug-ins for Skype, MSN and Yahoo! Instant Messaging (IM) services
  • Customizable interface templates for operator application branding
  • Subscriber-managed privacy profiles to share location information according to defined criteria such as date, time, day of week etc.
  • A “viral” subscription manager to ensure maximum application uptake
  • Text and map-based location representations
  • Extensible APIs for billing and advanced application requirements

White added that Locatrix/Finder is already being evaluated by mobile operators in Asia-Pacific, and the company is keen to showcase it to others, stating that the solution is “ready to go”.

Solving the Mobile Location Privacy Dilemma

Locatrix Communications announces industry-leading mobile location privacy solution, empowers mobile operators to dramatically expand the market for location-enhanced services

Brisbane, Australia – 9th May 2005 – Wireless location-enhanced services move a step closer to widespread adoption today with the announcement of Locatrix/P2, a mobile location privacy solution that allows network operators to safely deploy location-enhanced applications by providing subscribers with the ultimate control over how, when and by whom their location information is shared.

“Privacy remains a key issue for the deployment of location based services, and it is essential that subscribers maintain control of their privacy through permission-based or opt-in mechanisms”, says Paul Budde, Managing Director of global telecommunications research and consultancy company Budde Communications. “Operators also have an obligation to guarantee privacy and should make users fully aware of how and when their location information is used”.

Locatrix/P2 is deployed in conjunction with network location platforms, and provides subscribers with simple, operator-branded SMS, WAP, PC and web-based privacy tools. Individual subscribers can approve, deny, monitor and even block requests for their personal location information by other subscribers or specific value-added services. Subscribers can manage their location use according to any combination of requestor, user groups, applications, times and days of the week. The solution also enables subscribers to review every single request for their location information.

“Mobile operators are acutely aware of the potential liabilities should an individual subscriber’s location be misused,” says Mark White, Founder and CEO of Locatrix Communications. “Privacy concerns are regularly cited as one of the main that reasons location-based services and service revenues have grown slower than expected. Locatrix/P2 solves the mobile privacy dilemma and lays the foundation for location-enhanced application services to become more widely available.”

Locatrix/P2 is currently being evaluated by several international mobile operators and will be available early in the third quarter, 2005. The solution runs on a range of industry-standard and carrier-grade computer platforms. Interested mobile operators and solution partners can contact Locatrix Communications for more information at info at locatrix dot com.
